Editorial Policy
How we choose films, write reviews, handle scores, and keep the site free from outside influence.
Independence
Movie Reviews Vault operates independently. No studio, distributor, streaming platform, or advertiser has any say over what we review, how we score it, or what we write. Every review published on this site reflects the honest opinion of the reviewer, nothing else.
We do not accept payment for reviews, positive coverage, or placement on any list or feature. If that ever changes, we will say so clearly.
How We Select Films to Review
We choose films based on editorial interest, reader requests, and what we think deserves attention. We cover new theatrical releases, streaming premieres, festival films, and older films we feel haven’t received the critical attention they merit.
We do not review every film. We’d rather publish ten reviews we care about than fifty we don’t.
Screeners and Press Access
We occasionally receive press screeners from studios and PR teams. Receiving a screener does not guarantee a review, does not guarantee positive coverage, and does not give the provider any right to review or influence the published text. We disclose when a review is based on a press screener with a note at the bottom of the piece.
Our Rating System
We score films on a 1–10 scale. Scores reflect the reviewer’s overall assessment of the film as a piece of cinema — craft, performance, storytelling, and effect. We don’t inflate scores. A 6 here is a decent film worth watching; a 9 is exceptional. We explain our scores in the review text.
- 9–10: Exceptional. One of the best films of the year.
- 7–8: Very good. Worth your time, recommended.
- 5–6: Decent. Has merits, has flaws — make your own call.
- 3–4: Below average. Significant problems.
- 1–2: Poor. Hard to recommend.
Corrections
We correct factual errors. If you spot something wrong in a review, email us at hello@moviereviewsvault.com with the title of the review and the specific error. We’ll investigate and correct it if you’re right, with a note at the bottom of the article.
We don’t change review scores or editorial opinion based on reader disagreement. We do fix genuine mistakes — wrong release dates, wrong director credits, factual errors about the film’s content.
Spoiler Policy
We try not to spoil major plot developments in our reviews. When a review contains spoilers, it will say so at the top. Our goal is always to tell you whether a film is worth watching, not to summarise the plot.
Affiliate Links
We may use affiliate links — for example, links to streaming services or physical media. Clicking them costs you nothing extra, and any commission we earn does not influence what we write or how we score films. Our editorial decisions are made before any commercial consideration.
